Bangkok Itinerary: 3 to 4 Days
Bangkok rewards planning by area, since traffic makes crosstown hops slow. Three days covers the grand temples, the river and the markets; a fourth adds a day trip or a slower pace. Below is a clean structure plus solid places to stay near the Skytrain and river.
| Suggested length | 3 to 4 days |
|---|---|
| Get around | BTS Skytrain, MRT and river boats |
| Next stop | Chiang Mai by overnight train or the southern islands |
Day 1: old city and river
See the Grand Palace and Wat Pho in the morning, cross the Chao Phraya to Wat Arun, then take the river boat back and end in Chinatown (Yaowarat) for street food after dark.
Day 2: modern Bangkok
Ride the BTS Skytrain between Siam's malls and Sukhumvit, break for a rooftop bar at sunset, then eat your way down a night market.
Day 3: markets and a day trip
Weekends are for Chatuchak market; midweek, take a half-day trip to the Maeklong railway market or Ayutthaya's temples by train.
